Turkmenistan participated in the 36th meeting of the Regional Planning Council of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which began on May 17 in a hybrid format and will continue until May 20 under the chairmanship of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting, entitled "Reviving Regionalism for a Sustainable ECO," brought together heads of delegations from ECO member states to discuss the implementation of the decisions of the 35th RPS meeting and to approve the Work Programme and Calendar of Events for 2026.
Representatives of Turkmenistan outlined the country's key positions on developing regional cooperation. Priorities include deepening transport and logistics integration, advancing energy dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, and strengthening humanitarian contacts.
The importance of the Turkmenbashy International Seaport as a key link in transit corridors linking Asia and Europe was particularly emphasized. The Turkmen side also expressed support for the further development of the East–West and North–South corridors, the creation of multimodal infrastructure, and the expansion of regional logistics capacity.
Turkmenistan expressed support for the work on the Strategic Goals of Economic Cooperation until 2035 and confirmed its readiness for further active participation in the activities of the ECO.
