Turkmenistan and Russia have outlined new areas of scientific and educational cooperation

A delegation from the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, led by Rector Gulshat Yusupova, paid a working visit to Moscow. During the visit, they held talks with MGIMO leadership and a meeting with a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, during talks with MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov and Dean of the Faculty of International Relations Andrei Sushentsov, the parties discussed prospects for developing partnership within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed by the two universities in October 2017. The discussion focused on the possibilities of organizing student and faculty exchanges, developing joint educational programs in international relations and energy diplomacy, and implementing youth diplomacy initiatives.

Gulshat Yusupova also met with Alexander Sternik, Director of the Third Department of the CIS Countries at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two discussed the current state and prospects of the strategic dialogue between the two countries, noting the fruitful nature of cooperation in education and science.

MGIMO also hosted a roundtable discussion on strategies for academic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Russia. The event was attended by faculty members, experts, and students from Turkmenistan and Russia studying the Turkmen language. Participants identified academic mobility programs, joint educational programs in diplomatic service and energy diplomacy, the publication of a Turkmen language textbook, and the mutual publication of scientific papers as priority areas.

Following the visit, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in expanding inter-university cooperation and outlined practical steps to implement the agreements reached.
