Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed Deputy Prime Minister Batyr Annayev to continue work on updating and modernizing the country's railway infrastructure. This instruction was issued following an off-site government meeting, during which a report on the state of the Lebap velayat's transport and communications infrastructure was presented, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
According to the data presented, the growth rate of freight turnover across all modes of transport in the region amounted to 103,9% compared to the same period last year, with the velayat's share of the national figure at 13,3%. Passenger turnover increased to 100,6%, with the region's share of the national figure at 14,4%. The Lebap velayat's share of the country's rail freight turnover is 14,6%, and its share of passenger turnover is 4,2%.
In the communications sector, the region is connecting new subscribers to wired and cellular networks, improving service quality, and modernizing the infrastructure of specialized facilities. Large-scale work is also being carried out as part of the National Rural Program.
A modern autodrome with electronic equipment and a passenger bus station have been commissioned in Turkmenabat, significantly improving the accessibility and quality of transportation services for the public. The “Lebapawtoulag” Production Association provides regular bus service on 119 routes.
The state service "Türkmenhowaýollary" is systematically developing the transit potential of the international airports of Turkmenabat and Kerki. The joint-stock company "Derýaýollary" carries out aircraft repairs and modernizes the related facilities.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need to optimally utilize the region's logistical capabilities, create favorable conditions for international transport and transit links, and ensure the proper functioning of Turkmenabad's airports and bus station.
