The seventh meeting of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee will take place on April 16 this year in Ashgabat. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov reported on preparations for the event during an off-site government meeting, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the strategic partnership with China is a central focus of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. High-level visits significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral ties: President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's working visit to China in August–September 2025 to participate in the SCO Summit, as well as the friendly visit of National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Beijing on March 17–19, 2026.
At the upcoming meeting, the parties will consider key areas for the further development of their strategic partnership. The agenda includes energy issues, including new gas field development projects, as well as the modernization of railway infrastructure and the intensification of logistics cooperation along the China-Turkmenistan-Caspian Sea-Europe and Turkmenistan-China-Asia-Pacific routes. Cooperation in digitalization, artificial intelligence, agriculture, and the training of specialists in science and education will also be discussed.
The committee comprises six subcommittees, which meet regularly. This year, meetings of the subcommittees on humanitarian cooperation and transport and logistics have already taken place. Meetings of the subcommittees on energy and scientific and technical cooperation are scheduled for the second half of 2026.
Following the meeting, a protocol is expected to be signed, as well as a number of documents aimed at strengthening the legal framework for Turkmen-Chinese relations.
After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of ensuring a high level of organization for the upcoming meeting. The head of state signed a resolution appointing the heads of the Committee and its subcommittees from the Turkmen side, instructing the Deputy Prime Minister to carry out the necessary work.
