Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' three-day wedding in Venice had a significant impact on the city's economy. According to the Italian Ministry of Tourism, the event brought in about 1 billion euros to Venice, which is about 70% of the city's annual income.
As MIR24 reports, 61-year-old entrepreneur Jeff Bezos married 55-year-old TV presenter Lauren Sanchez in a ceremony that took place on the island of San Giorgio. The celebration took place at the five-star "Aman" hotel overlooking the Grand Canal.
The event brought together about 250 high-ranking guests, including:
- Actor Leonardo DiCaprio
- Singer Lady Gaga
- Queen of Jordan
- Ivanka Trump with her family
- The wedding celebration had a significant impact on the local economy:
- Guests were accommodated in the city's expensive hotels
- A whole fleet of water taxis was rented
- Several restaurants were booked
- The main party took place in the historic Venetian Arsenale, a former medieval shipyard
Despite the economic benefits, the event caused a mixed reaction among the residents of Venice. About a thousand people took part in a protest march from the railway station to the Rialto Bridge. The main concerns of local residents are related to the possible increase in housing prices as a result of such events.
City officials continue to analyze the long-term economic impact of hosting such large-scale private events in the city's historic center.
