Ethiopia has significantly exceeded its plans for preparing planting material for the annual national greening campaign "Green Heritage": instead of the planned 7,5 billion seedlings, 8,4 billion have been prepared, Fana Media Corporation reports, with reference to the country's Ministry of Agriculture.
The seedlings are planned to be planted on an area of 1,9 million hectares, of which 1,5 million have already been recognized as suitable. The authorities have prepared detailed maps for more than 492 thousand hectares, dug 3,1 billion planting holes and managed to plant more than 518 million trees. The campaign covers more than 116 thousand objects, including government agencies, schools and farms. The seedlings include forest, bamboo, ornamental and mixed species.
The “Green Heritage” initiative has been in operation since 2019 and aims to restore ecosystems and combat climate change. The current scale of preparation of planting material has become a record in the history of the project.
