On May 6, an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member States to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth was held in Minsk, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. This was reported on the website of the CIS Executive Committee.
The meeting was attended by the Permanent Plenipotentiary Representative of Turkmenistan to the statutory and other bodies of the CIS, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belarus Nazarguly Shagulyev.
The event began with the laying of flowers and wreaths at the Victory Monument.
Then the ceremonial events moved to the museum and park complex "Victory". Here, at the Alley of Friendship, founded by the permanent representatives of the CIS states in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, a requiem meeting was held.
Then the members of the Council laid flowers at the memorial sign "1941. The name of the hero is the people, the feat of the people is Victory! 1944".
The extraordinary meeting of the Council was held at the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War. In their speeches, the permanent representatives of the CIS states noted the importance of preserving the memory of the Great Victory, the inadmissibility of distorting the truth about the war, the need to expose attempts to falsify the results of the war and counter fascism and neo-Nazism.
Following the meeting, the permanent representatives agreed on the text of the Message for the media, which will be posted on the Internet resources of the CIS Executive Committee on the eve of the holiday.
Also, within the framework of the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives, a screening of a dilogy of documentaries about the genocide of the Belarusian people, “Burnt Villages” and “Death Camps,” and the film “Battle for the Dnieper,” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, took place.
At the end of the events, members of the Council of Permanent Representatives, the leadership and staff of the CIS Executive Committee took part in a requiem meeting at the obelisk in memory of Kazakhstani soldiers, erected in the Belarusian capital.
