The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Myanmar on March 28 has risen to 694. Earlier, 144 people were reported dead. Among the injured, 1,670 people are listed, and another 68 are missing, kommersant.ru reports with reference to AFP.
Numerous aftershocks have been recorded in the region over the past 24 hours. Due to the scale of the disaster, the Myanmar government have declared a state of emergency in six regions of the country.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred on the morning of March 28. The epicenter was located just 17 kilometers from Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar with a population of 1.5 million people.
The tremors were felt In several neighboring countries: Thailand, Bangladesh, Laos, China and India. There are also casualties in Thailand – at least 10 dead, 16 injured and more than 100 people missing.
