Prince Harry has reached a settlement with Rupert Murdoch’s media corporation in the wiretapping case. Initially, the royal representative planned to take the dispute to court, but the parties reached an agreement before the start of the hearing in the High Court of London, daily.afisha.ru reports with reference to the Associated Press.
News Group Newspapers agreed not only to pay significant monetary compensation, but also to formally apologize for interfering with the prince’s private life. The company acknowledged the illegality of the actions of The Sun journalists, including the illegal collection of personal data.
The lawsuit covered the period from 1996 to 2011 and concerned the illegal activities of employees of The Sun and The News of the World. Initially, it was planned to establish the scale of information abuse and the involvement of management, but the parties decided to settle the conflict out of court.
Although NGN had previously apologised for the 2011 wiretapping scandal following the closure of The News of the World, this was the first official admission of wrongdoing at The Sun.
