A meeting between representatives of Turkmenistan and the European Union was held in Brussels to discuss the possibility of a visit by the new European Commissioner for International Cooperation Jozef Sickel to Turkmenistan. Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium Sapar Palvanov held talks with Lucie Shestakova, Head of the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for International Cooperation and International Partnerships.
At the meeting, the parties emphasized the strategic importance of Central Asia as a key region at the crossroads of continents and discussed prospects for developing transport cooperation. The upcoming visit of European Commissioner Jozef Sickel will be an important step in strengthening the partnership, where transport issues will occupy one of the central places on the agenda of the negotiations.
Recall that in October 2023, a coordination platform on transport issues between the EU and Central Asia was launched in Turkmenistan. This initiative is the first and only mechanism for coordinating transport projects between the regions.
«The creation of an effective transport system between the EU and Central Asia remains a priority area of cooperation in 2025, contributing to the strengthening of economic ties and sustainable development of the regions,» the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Kingdom of Belgium wrote on its social media page.
