On January 7, the World Health Organization (WHO) said there were no reports of unusual outbreaks of diseases in China. According to the organization, the observed increase in respiratory diseases corresponds to seasonal indicators for the winter period in the northern hemisphere.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, Chinese authorities confirmed that the country's healthcare system is functioning normally and is not overloaded. Influenza remains the most common respiratory pathogen in the country.

Hu Qiangqiang, an official representative of the State Health Committee of the People's Republic of China, linked the current increase in cases with the onset of the cold season. He called on the population to get vaccinated in a timely manner and follow preventive measures.

Earlier, it was reported that measures to combat human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China were strengthened after analyzing respiratory samples taken in late December. According to experts, the country is also seeing an increase in influenza and rhinovirus cases.
