A Brazilian court has decided to suspend the distribution of the famous British singer Adele's song Million Years Ago throughout the world. The injunction affected all music platforms and distribution channels, gazeta.ru reports with reference to The Guardian.
Composer Toninho Geraes has initiated legal action, claiming that Adele's song is a copy of the 1996 composition Mulheres, written by Martinho da Vila. The musician demands not only a complete stop to use the track, but also financial compensation in the amount of 160 thousand dollars.
The court's decision obliges record giants Sony and Universal to immediately stop any manipulation of the song, from reproduction to distribution. For each case of non-compliance with the order, companies face a fine of 8 thousand dollars.
Despite the severity of the verdict, music companies still have the opportunity to appeal the ruling. Details of the ongoing proceedings remain undisclosed.
