The Indian Ministry of Defence has announced the first military space exercise Antariksha Abhyas – 2024, TASS reports.

The three-day exercise was organised to comprehensively assess the capabilities of space infrastructure and identify potential risks in the event of failures in the operation of orbital systems. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of the dependence of various structures on space technologies.

The exercise, whose name translates as «Exercises in the Skies Above the Earth», was attended by specialists from the Indian Defence Space Agency together with representatives of all branches of the armed forces. The programme included a discussion of innovative space developments and the country's current space projects.

General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Defence Staff of India, emphasised the strategic importance of space for national security. According to him, the country's rich experience in the space industry, combined with its growing military power, creates a solid foundation for the development of orbital technologies. Given the growing commercialisation and competition in the space sector, the general noted the need to protect India's interests through the development of innovative technologies and modern systems.
