A unique environmental campaign was held in the small French town of Darnetal. Local authorities offered residents to exchange cigarette butts collected from the streets for delicious honey from local beekeepers, euro-pulse.ru reports.

Participants in the campaign were asked to fill a 1,5-liter bottle with cigarette butts, for which they received a pot of natural honey as a reward. This initiative was aimed at combating the serious problem of pollution of city streets - according to the city administration, about 200 kilograms of cigarette butts end up on the sidewalks of Darnetal every year.

Despite the existing fine of at least 135 euro for throwing a cigarette butt on the ground in France, many smokers continue to throw them on the streets out of habit. However, the plastic contained in cigarette filters poses a serious threat to the environment, polluting water and soil, which has a negative impact on the health of people and animals.

The organizers of the event hope that this unusual proposal will make city residents think about their contribution to environmental pollution and change their habits.
