Turkmenistan and UN to discuss integrated financing for the Sustainable Development Goals

Within the framework of the upcoming Turkmenistan Investment Forum (TIF-2024) scheduled for September 10-11, an important meeting of the Joint Expert Group of the UN and the Government of Turkmenistan will be held in Ashgabat. The main topic of the meeting will be the formation of an Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.

This event will bring together representatives of key government bodies, international organizations and experts to discuss strategies to effectively achieve the SDGs in Turkmenistan.

The event will include a discussion on improving Turkmenistan's statistical capacity to implement the SDGs. This session will be moderated by Jalpa Ratna, UNICEF representative. The Deputy State Committee on Statistics of Turkmenistan will present current achievements and plans for the development of national statistics, emphasizing its importance for monitoring progress on SDGs.

One of the key topics will be a discussion on the results of SDGs costing at the global level and in Central Asian countries. Nur Barnat, Head of the Methodology Division, and Petra Kynchlova, UNCTAD Statistician, will share their knowledge and experience in this area and participate in the online event.

Another important topic will be financing and attracting investments in food security. Akosh Sebeni, Senior Technical Advisor, FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, will also participate online, presenting success stories and recommendations for attracting investment in the agricultural sector.

During the event, Irina Gukasova, UNDP Project Manager, will present the assistance provided by UNDP in the development of integrated national SDG financing mechanisms in Turkmenistan. In her presentation she will emphasize the need to integrate international practices and national specificities to achieve sustainable development.

The final session will be devoted to a discussion of the SDG Joint Country Analysis with a focus on targets and progress made by Turkmenistan in meeting its national commitments. In this block, experts from the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, together with Vladimir Valetka, an economist from the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, will present the main results and outline next steps.

The upcoming event will be an important platform for discussion and decision-making aimed at establishing an effective national financing structure to achieve the SDGs in Turkmenistan.

The meeting participants are expected to agree on further cooperation between national and international partners, which will contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
