According to a study by Australian scientists published in the journal Cancer, the number of cancer cases and deaths among men will increase significantly by 2050, snob.ru reports.

An analysis of data from 185 countries and territories shows that the number of new cancer cases in men could rise by 84%, from 10.3 million in 2022 to 19 million in 2050, with cancer deaths expected to increase even more over the same period - by 93%, reaching 10.5 million cases versus 5.5 million in 2022.

Lung cancer will remain the most common cancer among men, but the largest increase in mortality is predicted for prostate cancer – by 136%.

Scientists attribute the increase in cancer in men primarily to the aging population and increasing life expectancy.

Experts note that men are more likely to face the risk of developing cancer due to bad habits such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. In addition, occupational exposure to toxic substances also significantly increases the likelihood of cancer. In addition, men are less likely than women to visit doctors for preventive examinations, which leads to late diagnosis of the disease and, accordingly, reduces the chances of successful treatment.
