Turkmenistan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China agreed to deepen cooperation in the field of agriculture. This was the main result of the meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Tangryguly Atahalliyev and the leadership of Xinjiang, held on August 2 in Urumqi, reports the MIC.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including energy, education and medicine. However, special attention was paid to the agricultural sector. Atahalliyev emphasized that agriculture is a basic sector of the Turkmen economy, and expressed interest in studying Xinjiang’s best practices in this area.
During the negotiations, such aspects of agricultural cooperation as seed production, agricultural machinery, product processing and water resource management were touched upon. The Turkmen side highly appreciated Xinjiang's achievements in the development of modern agriculture and expressed hope for expanding exchanges in the field of scientific selection, livestock breeding and production of finished products.
The meeting was held as part of the implementation of strategic agreements reached between the leadership of Turkmenistan and China. Both sides confirmed the importance of further strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership between the regions of the two countries.
