At the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee in New Delhi, a new Chinese site was approved for inclusion in the UNESCO list. This object was the Central Axis of Beijing - a unique architectural ensemble that defines the appearance of the historical center of the capital of China. Bigasia.ru reports this.

“The central axis of Beijing is an excellent example of the historical heritage of the PRC. It reflects the Chinese people's age-old desire for orderly planning. This complex is based on the principles of traditional philosophy and cultural concepts of our country”, - commented Liu Zhou, director of the Center for National Cultural Heritage of Tsinghua University.

This architectural line, stretching from north to south for 8 kilometers, dates back to the Yuan Dynasty (13-14 centuries). Like many ancient Chinese cities, Beijing was planned according to the cardinal directions.

Along the Central Axis are famous historical monuments including the Bell and Drum Towers, the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven.
