A large-scale event was held in the capital of Tatarstan – the international competition of BRICS Quran reciters. The event attracted participants from 22 countries, including the CIS, Africa, Asia and South America. The only nomination of the competition was skillful reading of the Muslim holy book. However, the jury assessed not only the accuracy of citation, but also the melody and rhythm of pronunciation. This was reported by “MIR 24”.
Public reading of the Quran is an important tradition in Islam. It requires not only knowledge of Arabic, but also excellent memory and a well-trained voice. The slightest pronunciation error can change the meaning of a word.
A participant from Russia, Imam of the Saratov Cathedral Mosque Yasir Dodarbekov, emphasized the importance of conveying emotions and the meaning of the text through the voice and special types of reading – maqams. He noted that studying the Koran opened up new horizons for him.
The geography of the participants is impressive: from the CIS countries to Iran, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and even Brazil. The jury, consisting of academics and Islamic scholars, assessed the knowledge, performance and intonation of the readers.
Particular attention was drawn to the participant from Egypt, Mohamed Abdelkarim Kamil Attiyah Mohamed, who, despite being blind, learned the Koran by ear and became one of the favorites of the competition.
In addition to demonstrating reading skills, the competition had a noble goal: proceeds from ticket sales will be used to publish the Quran in Braille for the visually impaired.
