The Republic of the Philippines announced its accession to the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport, initiated by Turkmenistan. This was reported by the press service of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN.

The Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport (GFST) was established on July 6, 2022 by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations and serves as an informal platform for maintaining a broad multi-stakeholder dialogue to promote safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all in support of sustainable economic growth, improved social well-being of people and increasing international cooperation and trade between countries.

The Group's first ministerial meeting was convened at UN Headquarters in New York on 16 April 2024.

Today, 18 states have joined the Group.

Participation in the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport does not entail any financial, legal or any other obligations and is aimed at consolidating efforts within the framework of the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026-2035).
