In California, a serious conflict is brewing between Disneyland management and its employees. Four unions, representing more than 14 000 workers, voted to go on strike. The main reason for dissatisfaction is the unfair terms of employment contracts, according to employees, reports daily.afisha.ru with reference to NBC.

Although the exact number of voters was not disclosed, unions claim that 99% of participants supported the idea of a strike. However, this does not mean that it will certainly take place - the parties still have a chance to reach an agreement. If a strike does occur, it will be the first in the history of California Disneyland in 40 years.

Unions point to serious economic problems among their members, including difficulties in securing food and housing. Among those dissatisfied are cleaners, amusement ride operators, confectioners and salespeople. Negotiations with Disney have been ongoing since late April, and in June unions accused the company of unfair distribution of work responsibilities.

The US National Labor Relations Board is currently investigating complaints from 675 workers. A 2018 study found that 74% of Disneyland employees have difficulty covering basic monthly expenses.

A recent survey of union members found that 28% of park actors face food insecurity, 33% have housing insecurity, and 42% have to miss work because they don't have enough sick days. Moreover, 64% of artists spend more than half of their salary on rent.
