Spain became European champion for the fourth time (1964, 2008, 2012, 2024), setting a record for the number of victories at European championships. Previously, they shared this figure with Germany (3 titles).
It was England's second consecutive Euro final defeat after losing to Italy in 2021. The British still have never won the European Championship.
At the group stage, the Spanish team played in Quartet B, winning three victories in three matches – over the teams of Croatia (3:0), Italy (1:0) and Albania (1:0). In the playoffs, Spain beat the teams of Georgia (4:1), Germany (2:1 after extra time) and France (2:1).
