The national team of Turkmenistan began preparations for the Chess Olympiad

The men's and women's chess teams of Turkmenistan are undergoing training camps in Antalya (Türkiye) from July 1 to 12 in preparation for the 45th World Chess Olympiad, which will be held in September in Hungary.

According to the press service of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, the preparation process is led by international grandmaster Vasily Ivanchuk, world champion in rapid (2016) and blitz (2007), four-time winner of the world chess Olympiads. International master from Türkiye Okan Ozsakallioglu also participates in the training of the women's team.

The camps are organized by the professional chess academy Satranc365 under the leadership of international master Melikh Yurtseven. Leading chess players of Turkmenistan are taking part in them, including international grandmaster Meylis Annaberdiyev, international master Saparmurat Atabayev, the current Turkmenistan women's champion candidate for FIDE master Meryem Agajanova, 2023 FIDE women's master champion Lala Shohradova, her sister Leyla Shohradova and others.

The training program covers all aspects of chess mastery: work on standard positions, development of positional thinking, study of modern openings, as well as the nuances of the middlegame and endgame. Particular attention is paid to improving the relatively weak aspects of the game of Turkmen chess players.

On July 6, within the framework of the preparation, the men's team of Turkmenistan played a friendly match with the organizers of the training camp, winning with a score of 5,5 – 2,5.

Together with the players, he improves the qualifications and coaching staff of the national team, paying special attention to expanding the methodological arsenal and developing new exercises to develop positional understanding.
