Today, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Turkmenistan within the framework of his tour of the countries of Central Asia.
The visit to Ashgabat will be the final stage of the UN chief’s trip to the region. Previously, Guterres had already visited Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, where he took part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
During the official visit to Turkmenistan, the UN Secretary-General will hold meetings with the President of Turkmenistan and other high-ranking government representatives. The visit program also includes familiarization with projects to combat climate change and communication with local activists.
An important event will be the grand opening of the UN Central Office in Turkmenistan, reports the IIC.
