Defender Merih Demiral scored twice, scoring goals in the 1st and 59th minutes of the match. His first goal, scored in the 57th second, became the fastest in the history of the European Championships playoffs. For Austria, Michael Gregoric reduced the score in the 66th minute.
In another match of the 1/8 finals, the Dutch team defeated the Romanian team with a score of 3:0. The goals were scored by Cody Gakpo (in the 20th minute) and Donyell Malen (in the 83rd minute and in stoppage time in the 90+3 minutes).
