In an era when many are looking for ways to diversify their leisure time, a New York couple has found a hobby that has literally paid off.
James Cain and Barbie Agostini, using a powerful magnet, recovered a safe from the waters of a lake in Corona Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, the contents of which exceeded all expectations.
“When we opened the safe, there were two stacks of $100 bills inside,” James Cain told The Guardian. The total amount of funds found was an impressive $100,000.
The couple developed a passion for magnetic fishing during the pandemic. “It was the perfect way to hunt for treasure without having to buy expensive equipment,” Kane explains. However, they could hardly have imagined that their hobby would lead to such unexpected wealth.
After consultation with law enforcement agencies, it was decided that the couple could keep the find. Police concluded that it was impossible to identify the original owner of the safe.
