A youth bike ride dedicated to World Bicycle Day was held in Turkmenistan from May 27 to 29. More than 40 young boys and girls took part in the sports event.

The bike ride was organized by the Representative Office of the United Nations Population Fund in Turkmenistan (UNFPA) in cooperation with the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports.

On May 29, the awards ceremony for the cycling race participants was held, which became a significant occasion to celebrate the sports spirit and achievements of young people.
Kemal Goshliev, Head of the UNFPA Office in Turkmenistan said:

“The bike ride not only promotes health but also the green development agenda and promotes girls' participation in physical education and sports. Nowadays, issues of equality between men and women are becoming increasingly relevant. In this regard, the Government of Turkmenistan is making significant efforts to create equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of gender. The sports industry does not remain aloof from this process. Turkmen athletes demonstrate outstanding results at world competitions, winning gold and silver for their country. These achievements are a shining example of how hard work and dedication to sport allows women to achieve high results. Such victories not only raise the prestige of the sports industry in Turkmenistan, but also serve as an important symbol of equality between the sexes. "They demonstrate that women are capable of being successful and competitive in any area of life, including sports."

Also on this day, the organizers held a quiz and discussions on the topic of gender equality, equal opportunities and the role of youth in the development of the country with the participants of the bike ride, according to a UNFPA press release.
