Turkmenistan is taking steps to modernize national climate change plans and laws in light of the emerging impacts and risks caused by this phenomenon. This was stated by the Advisor on Environmental Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly Akmuradov, at the Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACC 2024), which started in Almaty on May 27.

Speaking at the conference, Akmuradov noted that Turkmenistan plans to conduct a review to quantify methane emissions in the oil and gas sector. In addition, he called environmental protection a priority for Turkmenistan, and confirmed the country’s readiness to fulfill its international obligations in this area.

CACC 2024, which is held from 27 to 29 May 2024, is an important platform for discussing climate change issues and finding solutions for mitigation and adaptation in Central Asia.
