Serbian specialist Dejan Stankovic will become the new head coach of the “Spartak” football club from next season, reports the press service of the Moscow team.
On April 14, it was announced that Guillermo Abascal resigned from the post of head coach of “Spartak”. He has led the team since the summer of 2022. The duties of head coach after the departure of the Spaniard are performed by Bosnian Vladimir Sliskovich. The club said in a statement that he will continue to work with the new coaching staff of the red and white.
“Dejan Stankovic needs no introduction, the career of this world football legend and the list of his achievements speak for themselves”, - said “Spartak” sports director Tomas Amaral. – But we are not inviting a former football player to “Spartak”, we are inviting a coach who has been working at a high level for five years. During this time, he managed to win four championship titles - three with “Red Star” and one with “Ferencvaros”, in addition, he has two Serbian Cups in his collection. However, it’s not just about titles; our choice was also influenced by the fact that Dejan’s work has a systematic approach. After the first conversation, we felt that this person was a great fit for our club - with his ambitions, passion, experience, leadership, and quality of understanding of football.
Stankovic headed “Red Star” from 2019 to 2022, he came to “Ferencvaros” in 2023, and he also worked at the Italian “Sampdoria”.
As a player, the Serb played for “Red Star”, with which he became the champion of Yugoslavia and a three-time winner of the national cup, the Italian “Lazio”, in which he won the championship, the Italian Cup and Super Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, and “Inter”, where won the national championship and cup five times, the Italian Super Cup four times, and also won the Champions League and the Club World Cup.
