Three Turkmen boxers will compete in the 2nd World Olympic Qualification Tournament, which will be held from May 23 to June 3 in Bangkok (Thailand).
The application for the tournament included Shukur Ovezov (57 kg), Saparmyrat Odayev (63,5 kg) and Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov (71 kg).
The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11.
As the press service of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) notes, Turkmen boxers have every chance to receive their first Olympic quotas.
“The head coach of the Turkmenistan national team, Tenilbek Jumakulov, has formed strong junior, youth, U22 and main teams over the past two years”, - the source notes.
The General Secretary of the Federation, Durdymammet Kuljayev, also shared his plans for the development of boxing in the country. According to him, Turkmenistan plans to hold domestic competitions in June or September of this year, as well as send boxers to as many international tournaments as possible.
Moreover, the country is considering the possibility of hosting an international boxing tournament in the future.
