Prices for Germany's favorite dish have skyrocketed, sparking outrage and calls for government intervention.

In Germany, a debate is heating up about doner kebabs - a once affordable fast food that has become a symbol of national cuisine. The sharp rise in prices for this dish, in some cases up to 10 euros per serving, has caused discontent among both ordinary residents and politicians.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly faced questions about doners during public appearances. In response, his government published an explanation on social networks that linked rising prices to rising wages and energy costs.

On social networks, the rise in the price of doners has received the humorous name “Donerflation”. The far-left party Die Linke has proposed that parliament consider a bill on a maximum price for doner, similar to rent restrictions in some EU countries.

The party document says that in some cities a kebab costs 10 euros, although two years ago it was only 4. Die Linke proposes to limit the price to 4,90 euros for everyone and 2,90 euros for young people from low-income families.

The party estimates that such a subsidy program would cost the budget 4 billion euros a year. This is reported by daily.afisha.ru.
