Turkmenistan held the first meeting of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport

The first Ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport was held at the UN headquarters in New York under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan. The participants gathered to discuss the goals, objectives and activities of this new initiative proposed by Ashgabat, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Aksoltan Atayeva, Chairman of the Türkmendeňizderýaýollary Agency Batyr Annayev, heads of transport departments, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions of the Group member countries, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua and other high-ranking guests.

Speakers emphasized the importance of building sustainable transport systems at the global and regional levels, as well as the need to consolidate efforts ahead of the UN Decade on Sustainable Transport (2026-2035).

Participants agreed that the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport will have a positive impact on the development of multilateral approaches in the transport sector.

During the meeting, the inaugural session of the Group’s Advisory Council also took place, at which Chairman Martin Marmy announced plans to involve the business community in the work of the association to build effective public-private interaction.

At the end of the meeting, a Final Declaration was adopted, defining the legal basis, goals and formats for the activities of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport.
