Italy's Industry Minister says the new Alfa Romeo Milano crossover cannot bear that name if it is made in Poland.

Adolfo Urso refers to a 2003 law prohibiting misleading buyers about the origin of goods. He believes that Milano's assembly outside Italy is such a case.

Stellantis, Alfa Romeo's parent company, objects, arguing that moving production to Italy would make the car too expensive.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said this would increase the retail price by 10 000 euros.

The dispute is significant as Italy seeks to increase domestic car production to 1 million a year.

Stellantis plans to fill Italian factories with Chinese cars, removing the unpopular FIAT and Maserati from the assembly line. But the country's authorities do not approve of this approach. Motor.ru reports this with reference to Reuters.
