A meeting of the project council of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan and the UN Development Program Office in the country was held in Ashgabat.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Human Rights in Turkmenistan, Yazdursun Gurbannazarova, and the acting UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, Tomica Paovic, reports the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
The meeting was held within the framework of a document signed between the Office of the Ombudsman and UNDP, according to which the implementation of the joint project “Providing assistance in strengthening the institutional capacity of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan” was extended until the end of 2024.
The parties reviewed the implementation of the tasks provided for by the joint project over the past period and upcoming events. At the same time, positive dynamics in cooperation between the two organizations were noted.
The participants discussed the upcoming events for the accreditation of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan in the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.
They also considered promoting the further strengthening of the institutional capacity of the Apparatus in accordance with the Paris Principles, which are a set of international standards that allow assessing the reliability, independence and effectiveness of national human rights institutions, the source notes.
