More than 450 athletes from 109 countries gathered at the Weightlifting World Cup, which started in Phuket, Thailand, in which the Turkmenistan team also took part.
The World Cup is the final qualifying event for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Based on the results of this tournament, the final world ranking will be formed - the 10 best athletes in each weight category will receive licenses to Paris.
The Turkmenistan national team is represented at the tournament by 9 athletes.
The women's team included: Kristina Shermetova (up to 59 kg) and Anamjan Rustamova (up to 81 kg).
The men's team will include: Seyitjan Mirzaev (up to 61 kg), Bunyad Rashidov and Bektimur Reyimov (both up to 73 kg), Maksad Meredov (up to 81 kg), Gaigysyz Toraev and Shatlyk Shohradov (both up to 89 kg), Davranbek Khasanbaev and Shahzadbek Matyakubov (up to 102 kg) and Hojamuhammet Toychiyev (over 109 kg).
The first of the Turkmen athletes will be Mirzaev (up to 61 kg) on the World Cup platform on April 2; a day later, Shermetova will start in the women’s weight category up to 59 kg at the World Cup. On April 4, Rashidov and Reimov (both up to 73 kg) will compete at the tournament, on April 6 Meredov (up to 81 kg), Toraev and Shohradov (both up to 89 kg) will compete for awards.
On April 8, Hasanbayev and Matyakubov (up to 102 kg) will perform, on April 9, Rustamova will take the stage for women in the weight category up to 81 kg, and on the final day, April 11, Toychiev (over 109 kg) will fight for medals and Olympic qualification.
