In Thailand, in the city of Lopburi, known for its rampaging macaques, the police anti-monkey unit carried out a special operation. Lenta.ru reports this with reference to the Thai Public Broadcasting Service.

Since the start of the operation on March 26, 23 aggressive macaques, which had been terrorizing city residents for several years, were captured. Among them is the alpha male of one of the packs, nicknamed Beard.

The captured macaques were taken to nurseries amid the cries of their relatives trying to free them from their cages. Biologists will later decide where to resettle them.

The operation takes place without the use of firearms or even blank cartridges. The police use only slingshots to fight off the monkeys.

As the Daily Mail notes, Lopburian macaques have already “learned” ways to deal with them. They do not eat treats with sleeping pills, and when they see people in uniform they hide on the roofs.

Lopburi macaques are a living landmark of the city, popular among tourists. Due to the fact that many feed the primates, they have become arrogant: they openly attack people, take food, bite and damage property.
