Turkmenistan and Iran intend to strengthen cooperation in the field of transport, fuel and energy complex and other areas

Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir Abdollahian in Ashgabat, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

The parties exchanged warm greetings and congratulations on the occasion of the holy month of Oraza. Hossein Amir Abdollahian conveyed cordial greetings to the National Leader of the Turkmen people from the President of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and the Supreme Spiritual Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized Tehran's interest in strengthening a fruitful dialogue with Ashgabat.

The head of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan welcomed the Iranian minister to the hospitable Turkmen soil and conveyed his best wishes to the Iranian leadership, noting the common historical and cultural roots of the two peoples.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated the constructive nature of bilateral cooperation based on the principles of good neighborliness, friendship and mutual respect, highly appreciating Iran’s contribution to the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution “2025 – International Year of Peace and Trust” initiated by Turkmenistan.

Stressing that bilateral cultural ties are developing in accordance with the spirit of the times, the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted the significance of large-scale celebrations on the occasion of the proclamation of the ancient city of Anau as the cultural capital of the Turkic world and the opening of the new Seyit Jemaletdin mosque in Anau.

As part of the discussion of the prospects for further development of interstate cooperation, Chairman Halk Maslahaty stated with satisfaction that Iran occupies an important place in the foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan. In this context, the parties expressed their intention to strengthen effective cooperation in such sectors as the fuel and energy complex, transport and communications, construction, and agriculture. Particular attention is planned to be paid to intensifying trade and economic ties, holding exhibitions and business forums.

Noting the importance of visits by government delegations of the two countries at various levels and exchange of views on issues of bilateral and multilateral relations, the National Leader of the Turkmen people confirmed their commitment to expanding mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership with neighboring Iran.

As emphasized, humanitarian cooperation plays an important role in strengthening interstate dialogue, bringing peoples closer together, and in the mutual enrichment of cultures. At the same time, the emphasis was placed on the availability of ample opportunities for establishing close contacts in the fields of science, education, culture, art and sports.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, speaking about the significance of the celebrations on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi, expressed confidence that representatives of the neighboring country will take an active part in them.

At the end of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran wished each other good health, longevity, great success in work and expressed confidence in the further development of fruitful bilateral relations across their entire spectrum.
