Mumbai tops list of Asian cities in terms of number of billionaires

The Indian metropolis of Mumbai (Maharashtra state) has surpassed Beijing and became the leader among Asian cities in the number of billionaires living. This follows from a study by the Hurun India rating agency, reports TASS.

Mumbai is now home to 92 billionaires, one more than Beijing. Overall, China still leads India in terms of the number of billionaires: 814 versus 271.
In the world rankings, Mumbai ranks third after New York (119 people) and London (97 people).

As the study notes, since the beginning of 2024, the number of billionaires in Mumbai has increased by 26, while in Beijing it has decreased by 18. The total wealth of Mumbai billionaires is estimated at 445 billion USD.

Most Indian billionaires made their fortunes in the energy, pharmaceutical and real estate sectors.
The richest man in Mumbai and all of India remains Mukesh Ambani, owner of the Reliance Industries holding. The list also includes Gautam Adani, head of IT consultancy HCL Shiv Nadar, owner of the Serum Institute of India, which produces vaccines, Cyrus Poonawalla, managing director of the pharmaceutical company Sun Pharmaceuticals Dilip Shanghvi, developer Mangal Prabhat Lodha, industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla.
