A large-scale charity event “The Big Haircut” was held in San Diego, USA. The campaign has two goals: to help children struggling with various illnesses and to break the Guinness record for hair donation.
This was reported by “MIR 24” with reference to The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The event was organized by a company that produces wigs for children who have lost their hair due to diseases such as cancer and alopecia. More than a thousand people attended the event and waited patiently to have their hair braided and cut by hairdressers.
Many of the participants were men who traveled to San Diego from all over the country to donate their hair.
“I started growing my hair out on a whim. I had short hair growing up and shaved my head in college, so I just wanted to see what it would be like to let it grow out. Donating to charity was a great idea. If it weren’t for this, I would just throw away my hair, and it’s a waste”, - said one of the participants, Goldie Goldbach, who has been growing his hair for almost ten years.
Judges monitored the progress of the event. The previous record for the number of hair donations in 24 hours was set in 2019, when volunteers donated 153 kilograms of hair.
