Farmers of Dashoguz and Ahal velayats received water intake pumps from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Nine centrifugal horizontal sectional pumps with a capacity of 22 to 55 kW will pump water over a distance of 150 to 200 kilometers.

Five pumps will supply water from the Karakum River through the main water supply system in the Central Karakum Desert, and four pumps will help provide life-giving moisture to remote areas of peasant farms during periods of low water.

With the help of pumps, water for irrigation will be uninterruptedly supplied to the fields of the Andalyp farm in the Akdepe etrap of Dashoguz velayat with an area of about 1000 hectares - that’s 25 thousand people; serve remote villages and pastures of the Erbent livestock farm of the Ak Bugday etrap, Ahal velayat (500.000 hectares of pastures, about 20 settlements, 25 thousand people). Also, water will be supplied to the water pipelines of Mary, Lebap, Balkan and Dashoguz velayats and provide water to 6 livestock farms, the area of each of which is about 100 thousand hectares, and the population is about 10 thousand people.

Thus, residents of villages and towns in the desert areas of the Central Karakum will be fully provided with water for domestic and agricultural needs, and livestock breeders will be able to provide watering places for animals.

The delivery of equipment was held thanks to the financial and technical support of the regional project of FAO and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) “Integrated natural resource management in drought- and salinity-prone agricultural landscapes of Central Asia and Türkiye” in close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, as well as government authorities in places.
