Turkmenistan joined the BUNKER-2001 Convention

The International Maritime Organization approved the accession of Turkmenistan to the International Convention “On Civil Liability for Damage from Bunker Fuel Pollution” (BUNKER-2001).”

This Convention for Turkmenistan will come into force on April 23. This was reported on the website of the Turkmen Sea and River Routes Agency.

The BUNKER 2001 Convention was adopted by the International Maritime Organization on March 23, 2001 and entered into force on November 21, 2008. The main purpose of the Convention is to adopt a uniform international standard and procedure for determining liability issues and providing compensation for bunker fuel pollution.
Currently, more than 100 countries of the world are participants in the BUNKER-2001 convention, including the Caspian countries: Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation and Iran, the source notes.

Let us remind that the Law of Turkmenistan “On Accession to the International Convention on Civil Liability for Damage from Bunker Fuel Pollution” was adopted in November last year.
