Turkmenistan and Japan signed documents on expanding economic partnership

Four documents for the development of economic cooperation were signed following a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the head of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Ken Saito, reports the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

During the negotiations, the parties noted the importance of strengthening long-term partnerships and finding new opportunities for cooperation, especially in the field of energy transition and hydrogen production.

Specific initiatives were discussed to conduct a ministerial dialogue within the “Central Asia + Japan” format, prepare a roadmap for decarbonization, and introduce e-commerce. These steps are designed to deepen partnership in the economy, trade, and energy.

The main outcome of the meeting was the signing of four memorandums of understanding and cooperation:

  • on the implementation of joint projects in the field of energy transition;
  • for the design and “turnkey” construction of the Second Complex of a plant for the production of gasoline from natural gas in the Ahal velayat of Turkmenistan;
  • for the provision of technical services at the “Marykarbamid” plant;
  • for maintenance of an existing plant for the production of gasoline from gas in Ahal.
