On January 19, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, at which the key directions of the country’s development for 2024 were discussed.
In particular, plans were presented for the development of the financial and economic sphere, the continuation of large-scale infrastructure projects, and the expansion of trade and economic ties with foreign countries. Issues of agriculture, science and education, culture and international cooperation were also discussed.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening cybersecurity and the development of digital technologies in the country, including the creation of the “Electronic Government” system and the training of relevant specialists.
In general, large-scale plans for the further progressive development of Turkmenistan in all key areas were presented at the meeting.
Finance and Economics
The relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan have prepared a draft “Program for the socio-economic development of the country for 2024”, which provides for the development of industries and regions, as well as the creation of new jobs in the velayats. The document provides for the creation of import-substituting and export-oriented industries, support for agricultural producers and improvement of the business environment.
Construction
The draft Investment Program of the country for 2024, prepared by the Government of Turkmenistan, provides for the continuation of the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, the construction of a new airport in the Balkan velayat, a combined power plant with a capacity of 1574 MW, the international high-speed highway “Ashgabat-Turkmenabat”, a bridge across the Gulf of Garabogaz kol, as well as the second stage of the “smart” city of Arkadag. After hearing the report on the Investment Program, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed Deputy Prime Minister Baymyrat Annamammedov to review the draft document again.
Trade
The work plans of the ministries and departments of the trade complex of Turkmenistan for 2024 provide for the introduction of advanced methods of conducting electronic trading at the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, organizing exhibitions using modern technologies at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as expanding trade and economic relations with foreign countries.
Subsoil use
The State Corporation “Turkmengeologiya” carries out hydrogeological exploration work to identify new deposits of drinking water using new technology.
Agriculture
Preparatory work continues in the cotton fields of the velayats of Turkmenistan, including plowing, leveling and leveling. To get a rich harvest, care for wheat crops continues. At the same time, additional water reserves are created in reservoirs for irrigation of agricultural crops.
Science and education
The International Scientific Conference “Magtymguly Frags and Universal Cultural Values” will be organized in Turkmenistan in honor of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet and thinker, as well as the third Turkmen-Chinese scientific and innovation forum.
Technologies
The “Electronic Government” system in Turkmenistan will be created on the basis of the X-Road architecture. Currently, a supplier of the necessary equipment is being selected in conjunction with the United Nations Development Program.
Culture
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's Artist of Turkmenistan Ayhan Hajiyev, an exhibition and forum Pyragydan ruhlanan ussat will be organized with the participation of Turkmen artists, students of specialized universities and foreign guests.
The international cooperation
In the first half of 2024, an international conference “The role of neutral states in strengthening security and trust in the OSCE region” is planned to be held in Ashgabat together with the OSCE.
In March, the OSCE Secretary General is expected to visit Turkmenistan with the aim of developing and enhancing ties between Turkmenistan and this structure.
A visit to Turkmenistan by the Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the head of the Anti-Terrorism Committee of this Assembly is planned for April.
In May of this year, it is planned to organize a regional meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation regarding support for the policy of neutrality of Turkmenistan with the participation of members of parliament.
