A flock of hungry jackdaws in the Swedish town of Gävle has begun eating the straw goat that is placed annually in the central square as a Christmas decoration. The city administration decided not to interfere with this “natural process”. Euro-pulse.ru reports this.

In recent decades, the Christmas goat in Gävle has become famous not only for its size, but also for the fact that it is regularly set on fire. The goat “lived” until the New Year only 19 times in 57 years.

Birds have become the main problem with the straw man this year. Due to wet weather in Sweden in July and August, there was an unusually large amount of grain left in the straw that made up the Christmas goat. Local jackdaws began to take the figure apart in search of food.

Gävle City Hall was considering the possibility of installing an automatic system that would scare away birds. However, ultimately, officials decided to “not interfere with nature” and allow the birds to feast on the grains.
