Six Lionel Messi jerseys worn at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar were auctioned at Sotheby's for 7.8 million USD. AiF reports this with reference to the auction house’s website.
“The T-shirts that Messi wore to matches are artifacts of his legacy. They symbolize the peak of Messi's career, filled with work and passion for the game. These T-shirts will serve as a reminder of the greatness of Messi and the mark he left on the history of football,” the publication said.
However, the auction result failed to surpass the record set by Michael Jordan's 1998 NBA Finals jersey, which sold in 2022 for 9.1 million euro.
