Turkmen weightlifter Gaygysyz Torayev won a bronze medal at the Grand Prix II weightlifting tournament in Doha (Qatar), which is a qualifier for the 2024 Olympics.

A student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports achieved this success in the weight category up to 81 kg with a result of 338 kg in the double event. In the snatch exercise, Toraev held a barbell weighing 150 kg over his head, and in the clean and jerk exercise – 188 kg.

Indonesian athlete Rahmat Erwin Abdullah received the silver medal with 362 kg, while Ri Chong Song (DPRK) won gold with 374 kg. Another Turkmen weightlifter Maksad Meredov, who also competed in this weight category, showed the 7th result (306 kg; in the snatch - 135, in the clean and jerk - 171).

This is already the second success of Turkmen weightlifters at the tournament in Doha. Earlier, Bunyad Rashidov also won a bronze medal in the combined event in the weight category up to 67 kg.

It should be noted that 13 Turkmen athletes are competing in Doha. Today, Shatlyk Shohradov will take to the stage at the Holiday Villa Hotel & Residence Doha in the weight category up to 89 kg.

In the remaining days, the Turkmen national team will include: Shahzadbek Matyakubov (up to 96 kg), Polina Guryeva (up to 76 kg), Davranbek Hasanbaev (up to 102 kg), Anamjan Rustamova (up to 87 kg) and Hojamuhammet Toychiev (over 109 kg).

The International Weightlifting Federation Grand Prix in Doha will end on December 14.
