China's Jiangnan Shipyard has presented a design for the world's largest nuclear-powered container ship. The vessel will have a carrying capacity of up to 24 thousand standard containers (TEU) and will operate on a molten salt reactor. Bigasia.ru reports this with reference to the “Chinese Panorama” Telegram channel.

The project was presented at the Marintec China exhibition in Shanghai. Experts note that the main issue is the choice of power plant for the future container ship. It is likely that it will be a thorium reactor. China has made great strides in developing this technology, launching its first thorium power unit in the Gobi Desert earlier this year.

According to experts, the creation of a giant container ship powered by clean nuclear energy will be a breakthrough in global shipbuilding. The innovation received the support of the international classification society DNV GL, which issued a certificate to the project
