JSC "Ashgabat City Telephone Network" continues to modernize communication services provided to residents of the Turkmen capital and enterprises of various forms of ownership, using modern GPON (Gigabit passive optical network) technology.
According to JSC AGTS, work to provide high-quality communication services to subscribers using GPON technology is carried out with the financial support of the Islamic Development Bank within the framework of projects implemented with its participation to develop the communication system of Turkmenistan.
Recently, more than 20 multi-storey buildings in the southern part of the capital (1 536 apartments), which are under the departmental management of the Fuel and Energy Complex, were provided with modern communications using GPON technology. Optical cables are laid to each house and ONT subscriber terminals are installed.
Previously, a number of districts of Ashgabat, including large residential neighborhoods and building complexes, were provided with communications using GPON technology. Among them are the 11th microdistrict, cottages of the Choganly residential complex, residential buildings on Senagat Street, as well as those located between Bitarap Turkmenistan Avenue and Gurbansoltan Eje Avenue, etc. In total, 17 941 points of the GPON technology system are successfully operated.
The widespread use of fiber-optic cables as a transport medium for data transmission is currently the most relevant way to meet the ever-increasing needs of the country's population for volumes and high speed communications. GPON technology allows for high data transfer speeds of 100 megabytes per second.
For the GPON network, there is no need to install any additional devices that consume electricity in the connection line from the station equipment to the subscriber point. This technology involves laying a cable directly to the subscriber’s premises, which makes it possible to receive several communication services simultaneously over one cable.
Thus, the use of GPON technology when providing telecommunications services to customers: digital telephone communication, IP television and the Internet makes it possible to reduce system maintenance costs, as well as raise the quality of communication services to a higher level.
