The American corporation Google will provide Internet to remote Pacific islands by extending underwater fiber optic cables to them, Reuters reported.

A corresponding agreement will be signed between the United States and Australia. The United States will allocate 15 million USD for the project, and Australia is ready to invest up to 50 million USD. The United States is ready to assist Pacific Island states in ensuring cybersecurity and creating backup copies of key information in cloud networks.

Fiber optic cables will be extended to such countries as Tuvalu, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Cook Islands, Marshall Islands, Fiji, Nauru, Samoa, Micronesia, Wallis and Futuna Islands. All of them will be connected by cables to each other and to two US territories - American Samoa and Guam.
