The Astrakhan region, one of the leading regions of Russia in the development of renewable energy sources (RES), has offered Turkmenistan cooperation in this area.
Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Astrakhan Region Denis Afanasyev announced the proposal on the sidelines of the International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan - 2023,” TASS reports.
“The Astrakhan region is one of the five regions of the Russian Federation for the development of renewable energy sources. I see good opportunities for interaction in this direction. This is all the more relevant since Turkmenistan and the Astrakhan region have similar geographical and climatic conditions. Such cooperation could be interesting for Turkmenistan; this is a promising area for interaction,” said Afanasyev.
He also noted that in the Astrakhan region currently up to 50% of electricity generation is produced from renewable energy sources. In his opinion, all countries of the Caspian region have similar conditions for the development of renewable energy sources.
“This is suitable for every country in the Caspian basin; alternative energy sources can be inherent in this region, develop well here and bring good returns,” Afanasiev noted.
